The music program at PS 63 was launched in 2015. Every student receives approximately 6 weeks of daily forty-five minute music lessons. This year, we have more than 600 students.
Students are in grades Pre-K -- 5th grade. Some are naturally musically inclined, some have never made music before, but all are welcome! We sing, move, play classroom instruments, and play music games. Our major goal is music literacy and composition. Students can often be heard singing our songs in the hallways, outside of school, and even on field trips!
We have been able to borrow 28 new guitars thanks to Little Kids Rock; we also salvaged instruments from the old music program (existed 10 years ago.) Whatever can be used in class is used (guitar storage shelves were old, unused classroom shelves.)
We hope to perform in six concerts this year as well as give special performances (awards assemblies, respect for all assembly, etc.)
