We have a life cycle unit that requires a lot of reading, but doesn't provide a lot of opportunities for authentic activities. The bird nest habitat and feeder will be hung right on our window. Students will be able to watch up close as a variety of birds eat at the feeder. We will connect social studies and science as we identify the types of birds native to Connecticut. The bird box will be set up on another window so students can see the magic of a bird creating a home, laying eggs, the eggs hatching, and the feeding of the young birds all from our classroom! Also, the alternative seating has been proven to help students with attention and sensory sensitivities so they can more fully participate in the science literacy lessons.
Children are scientists by nature, but it isn't always easy in schools to go out and explore the world - help me bring the world to them!
