iPads are wonderful resources for students with special needs. iPads can be used as a communication tool, an aid to daily activities, as a reward, learning new things, learning social skills, practicing turn-taking, practicing pre-handwriting skills that can transfer into being able to eventually use writing tools, etc.
iPads are incredibly engaging! They are highly motivating to many of my students. It is imperative that students with autism have a 'reward' or 'reinforcer' item to work for, it motivates them to participate and complete their work in the classroom. An iPad can be used for this reason, in addition to learning new things.
