My students will be reading books of varying genres and competing in a public event in which they answer questions about the book for the school and families to enjoy. I'm requesting copies of Eleanor & Park, I Am Malala, Always Running La Vida Loca, Speak, Sold, The Book Thief, and Uglies. With these books received from this project, students will have the opportunity to engage in book talks with their peers throughout the remainder of the year. The purpose of the project is to help students to enjoy reading, but also to help them recognize that reading creates a sense of community; and, by talking about and sharing books, they will be able to share in experiences outside of the world in which they live. The students will also take part in a community event where they get to talk about the books and showcase what they've learned in front of their teachers, friends, and families.
