The materials that I have requested to get this project off the ground break down into three categories. First, I have requested for purchase a collection of 'Inside Out' supplies (videos, small figurines, plush characters, emoji stress balls, stickers to act as a visual reminder, and books to help explore each emotion) to help students connect with how their emotions and day-to-day memories affect their behaviors. The 'Inside Out' figurines will be utilized to encourage having students role play situations and emotional responses. The second grouping of supplies include mindfullness coloring books, colored pencils, and pattern looms. These materials have been proven to help teach children who have experienced trauma the concept and skill of mindfullness, which allows them to focus on the here and now, and not their past traumas. The last collection of supplies (Thoughts and Feeling: sentence completion card games, Mixed Emotions: An activity for cognitive-behavioral therapy, Mad Dragon: An Anger Control card game, Mindfullness Matters game, and Totika Self Esteem Game) are geared towards teaching social-emotional control when interacting in small groups with adults and peers.
These materials and games will help students develop their problem-solving skills, develop coping mechanisms, encourage mindfullness, and help them deal with anger in a healthy and appropriate manner.
