Currently, our 20 book bags rest on the floor against cabinets, and lunch boxes sit atop the counter. It is commonplace for my students to trip over these book bags when they are going to get tissues, germ-x, or to use the sink. It would be wonderful to have a proper storage area to hold their personal belongings of book bags, lunch boxes, and jackets.
I am asking for funding for 2 heavy duty wooden coat lockers that features 10 student spaces, for a total of 20 spaces. These wooden lockers will provide much needed cubby space to store book bags, jackets, and lunch boxes for each of my students. I am also requesting plastic storage tubs (20) to hold the students' lunch boxes. In Kindergarten, we often have leaky lunch boxes. These plastic tubs will prevent these leaks from damaging the wooden cubby locker surfaces so they will last for many, many years to come. I try to educate our students to be proactive, productive, and organized in their work and with their materials, yet I am not providing them with the tools to see this in action.
I have addressed this concern; however, our school funding and budget is just not able to fund this request at this time. I want my students to feel that there is always a place for them and their important personal belongings in my classroom. Can you please assist me in fulfilling this classroom need for my deserving students?
