Many of my students are reluctant readers. Many are learning to speak, read, and write English. There are also several students with learning differences. There are several students who are fluent readers and need challenges to keep moving forward.
We have access to many wonderful digital resources that meet individual student needs and provides targeted skill lessons on their levels. Unfortunately, many of our students do not have access to computers and the internet at home.
I try to provide hands on experiences to build background knowledge and interest students in reading and writing. We are learning crucial reading, writing, and research skills that will help them as they transition into upper elementary grades.
Meeting students at their levels is crucial. Learning to be fluent readers that comprehend material will enable these students be able to read to learn in later grades.
