Our students with special needs are starting their own greeting card business to help raise money for extra curricular activities as well as gain hands-on work experience. The students will be directly involved in all aspects of the business including taking special orders, preparing, making and selling the cards to staff, families and other students around the school. The students will benefit from real-time social interactions that will generalize into the work/community environment.
We are requesting cardstock, stamps, organizational carts to develop occupational, vocational, speech/language, social, motor and life skills in addition to enhancing self-sufficiency for our special needs students. 'Greeting Galore and More' is a project for all levels of our students including lower and higher functioning Autism. Students are able to work in either an assembling line or individually. Students will learn the aspect of business by taking orders, filling out paperwork, collecting monies, counting money, and giving change to customers. Students will determine how the profits will be spent through discussion and voting.
The more experience and exposure our students receive in our educational environment the better chances our students have at becoming successful in the work force and in their adult lives. Please, please, please help us fulfill this dream we have for our special needs students!
