My students are working to become stronger readers and critical thinkers. These are tough times in the Chicago public schools. Due to limited funding, there is not enough money for basics, such as, ink or paper.
I'm requesting HP black ink cartridges and Staples copy paper which will be used to create student worksheets. Students will use printouts of articles at their reading level, so they can improve at close reading text to understand it. I also have students that don't speak English. They need printouts of materials in their native language. My students need to practice their reading strategies by annotating nonfiction articles with the Post-it notes.
Without the ink replacement cartridges, paper and Post-it notes my students won't get the opportunity to practice close reading, which will hold them back from reaching their full potential.
