At Ellis we are lucky to have a diverse community that includes 23 languages other than English represented in the homes of our student body. Research shows that bilingualism is good for the brain, not to mention the importance of remaining connected to culture and family. Having the ability to check out and read books together is a great way for children and their family members to learn together and connect with one another.
It is difficult to find quality children’s books in languages other than English and Spanish. Right now our school library has books in Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, French, and one in Navajo.
We would love to grow this resource so that we can offer our families a chance to stay connected with each other and with their cultures. This is one way we can connect with and support the children and families in the Ellis community as well.
