Having quality nonfiction text/leveled readers in our classroom library will help to "spark" student interest and curiosity about the world. Many of my students do not have books at home, so I feel it is important for them to be exposed to literature and information to help them develop academic vocabulary and concepts.
By the end of the year, students should be able to read and comprehend expository text. Expository text allows students to engage in a natural study process, noting headings, key ideas and information. The responsibility of reading and learning can be developed with the teacher's guidance. Good, quality text will help students become better readers and learners.
