Having headphones will allow students the opportunity to enjoy every aspect of their iPads. We usually keep iPads on silent so that the learning of others isn't disturbed and there isn't too much sound going on at one time.
There are many daily apps on the iPads, such as Accelerated Reader and Smarty Ants, that students use that would be more beneficial if they had headphones that are durable. Most students in 2nd grade can read for themselves but for those who come in reading below grade level or not speaking any English at all, it isn't as easy for them to benefit from the read aloud apps on the iPads. Also, some apps are very interactive and students without headphones can't really enjoy those apps.
