My sagacious fourth and fifth graders are eager to learn new things. As a reading specialist, I have the opportunity to work with small groups of students who are in need of reading intervention. There are various small groups occurring in the classroom at the same time based on each student's need. My goal is to help students become lifelong learners and lifelong readers.
My school serves a low income, disadvantaged population with limited use of technology available in homes. Seventy-five percent of the students are receiving free or reduced lunches. Despite these challenges, the students look at each new day with joy and have voracious appetites for learning. Eventually, I hope to have one piece of technology for every student to use at their academic level to support reading motivation.
