We as teachers must adapt along with the students in our classrooms. If we want high student engagement and student motivation from our students, then we must adapt our classrooms to achieve this. Our world today is a fast paced, lively and active place. We cannot expect our students to solve problems and complete work in the same way they did many years ago. As our world is changing, so are the children. Many kids can show their creativity and intelligence through activity. Our classrooms should be an open environment conducive to collaboration, movement and engaging! This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. Which is why I would like to get more flexible seating in my classroom!
Some benefits of flexible seating are; using up excess energy, increased motivation, burning more calories, increased focus on the task at hand, improving posture, and improved engagement.
They physical activity is linked to higher overall achievement!
The flexible seating will keep students engaged and on task as well as make them excited about having a 'choice' for where they would like to sit! I can already see the smiles on their faces if they got to choose a special seat to sit in while focusing on the task at hand (learning Math and Science).
I thank you in advance for your support in making my students learning environment a happy place!!
