These materials will make it possible for our engineering class to construct, power, and race their own personal hovercrafts. The students will get to see first hand alternative modes of transportation, emerging technologies, and have a lot of fun doing it. We are hoping to recieve 3/4 inch plywood, carriage bolts, wood screws, duct tape, and plastic sheeting to construct the craft itself. We are also in need of gas powered leaf blowers to give us the capabilities to hover off the ground. I would also like scroll saws, sandpaper, and drills to construct the craft.
While working in engineering teams, each student will have the opportunity to draw blueprints, make measurements, create a framework, and attach the hardware to their very own hovercrafts. They will test their designs, troubleshoot problems, and redesign solutions.
This will truly be a one-of-a-kind learning experience for each of these amazing students they will remember for a very long time.
