The majority of my students do not like to read and are far below grade level. I strive to find material that they can connect to and find interesting while also building their comprehension skills. It is important that I show them that reading can be enjoyable. SE Hinton's The Outsiders is a book my students will relate to as many of them come from "at-risk" backgrounds. In addition, many critical thinking discussions and writing assignments can be built around the themes in this book. It is of vital importance that my students improve their reading and writing skills and your donation will assist in this endeavor.
