The nine Lenovo Chromebooks will transform quality of instruction and expand the scope of projects students can attempt in English 11 and 12. With your donation, all of my students from special needs to advanced, will have daily access to relevant instruction. No longer is English class only for reading traditional literature and writing essays; students read and access current text from articles to blogs. They are required to produce writing that varies from critical essays supported with evidence and research to proposals for student-driven project ideas. In eleventh grade, my students go on a web-quest to explore colleges and careers and create a College Readiness Portfolio culminating in professional presentations to teachers and parents. My twelfth grade students embark on a semester-long service learning journey in small groups in which they write and create all of the components of an awareness campaign. Lessons are infused with real world skills that incorporate technology skills with collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, reading and writing. It is access to information and what students are able to create with it that enhances skills, student buy-in, and creates relevance in the classroom.
Daily access to technology will allow my students of all ability levels to prepare for relevant, college level work and life after high school through practice of real world 21st century skills. Having Lenovo Chromebooks to share among my students will improve collaboration, access to current information, and quality student projects. It is an investment in the future of relevant education in our English class.
