All senior students participate in a Common Senior Experience (CSE) in that the students analyze a common expository text to develop critical thinking skills and hone social awareness actions beyond the classroom. This type of lesson requires technology resources at your fingertips in order to be successful. Students will read a selected text with themes like resilience in the face of hardship or the power of one person to make a difference.
Within each CSE group, students must create and implement a plan to raise social awareness and/or funds regarding this important issue to their community and beyond. Students are challenged to seek out creative ways for raising awareness and/or funds using technology. The CSE groups meet weekly to set goals to be accomplished and many will require a laptop computer. This Common Senior Experience spans the entire second semester of their senior year. It teaches them to not only be a constructive member of society but also how to have empathy for others while making a difference in people's lives!
