My project will support at least forty students of the incoming 6th grade class to master numeracy skills with "automaticity." Students without these skills are far more likely to continue to fall behind and thus far less likely to succeed in their 6th grade mathematics course and beyond.
Students will practice and master the basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using the free FlashMaster App on the new Fire 7 Tablets.
Many students from low-income families did not and do not have access to even this simple technology to supplant their learning, in contrast with students from higher-income families.
By providing students access to the tablets in after-school sessions with adult support, we will ensure they do not fall further and further behind-until it becomes almost impossible to catch up. We want ALL of our 6th grade students to succeed in mathematics!!
