My students face challenges most people don’t have to face. Their parents have to choose to either buy groceries or to buy school supplies.
Many students come to school embarrassed and self conscious about not being prepared for class, a feeling no student should experience. Having stocked classroom supplies is important for my students to feel successful. They know they will always have a pencil or gluestick. Art projects, interactive notebooks, or science experiments will be expressed creatively in their personal style because they will have all the tools required to do so. My shared supplies are for everyone. Everyone uses them, so everyone is equal. These kids already have so many big things to worry about, I’m just trying to make their lives a little easier.
