These materials will help students who are diagnosed learning disabled, autistic, or other health impaired remain in a general education setting. The use of the sensory lab allows students to take a 15 minute break to get their wiggles out before returning back to class. The use of the sensory lab has had positive changes in our students behavior and academic progress.
By giving students the chance to recollect themselves in the sensory lab, they are able to remain in a general education setting for longer periods of time. The increased time in the general education setting has helped students academic progress in a great way. However, we do need more options for the students that we see in the sensory lab. By funding this project, you will be helping students gain academic and behavioral successes in and out of the classroom!
With the fidget cubes that are requested in this project, students will be able to physically manipulate and fidget to refocus their brain. While they are in the sensory lab, the use of the peanut balls will help students to roll and stretch out when they are feeling antsy and stressed. The bosu balls will help refocus their mind and body to be able to return to the general education setting. Lastly, the yoga mats will help students destress with the use of yoga. The sensory lab is beneficial when the students have the options to regain focus and decrease unwanted behaviors in the classroom.
