Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's 2009 TED talk, "The Danger of a Single Story," she urged viewers to consider the following thought: "when we reject the single story, when we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise." This same concept is one that I am weaving into my world geography and world history classes. As 9th and 10th grade historians, we consider the multiple stories that each world region brings to our classroom. I would like to broaden their perspective and widen their own knowledge of the world and excite students about history by bringing multiple stories in the form of literature. The students will be participating in literature circles, where they have the opportunity to speak to their fellow historians about the stories they are reading, and which will result in the production of a culminating project.
