Oklahoma teachers and students recently adopted new academic standards that were designed to enhance the overall development of mathematics literacy. In transition, students have been given more rigorous, real-world mathematical problems that require technology earlier than in years past.
Having these resources available daily will allow students to confidently attack more rigorous, complex, math problems and allow more time enhancing critical thinking skills that stimulate real-world solutions.
A class set of calculators that meet state requirements will allow students to develop and perfect skills necessary for using those built into the online achievement tests. Being able to provide students with a class set of calculators will cut down technological confusion and cell phone distractions.
Our classroom is also in great need of a color printer. The printer would allow us to print reusable, engaging task/station cards, provide a better visual for real-world scenarios, and allow students to creatively display projects. I also have to print my own copies at Office Depot if I want anything in color or if our school's printer is down. This would allow me to print in my classroom for a much lower cost and allow me to provide students new or engaging content faster.
