Providing students that are often unable to verbalize their wants and needs with the opportunity to independently access tools to help them regulate increases their availability for learning. Throughout the day students are required to engage in multiple work sessions while seated. These work sessions are meant to be challenging and students may become stressed or frustrated. By providing students with the ability to receive deep pressure, they are able to calm themselves and reorganize themselves.
Following the opportunity to access deep pressure as well as other sensory accommodations, students are found to be able to calm themselves and be ready to participate in their academic environment.
The sensory steam roller will provide students with an additional option to independently calm themselves. I have seen first hand how the use of deep pressure calms and soothes students that are unable to voice what they need in order to cope with stress and anxieties, giving them more control over their lives.
