I am requesting your help in funding 10 Chromebooks to support a more flexible learning environment for my students. They will be used to assign daily classwork and to facilitate collaboration in group projects via Google Classroom. They will be made available to students who do not have access to internet or computers at home.
With these computers, I can use online and computer-based applications that will allow them to work at their own pace, engage in more creative activities, and more easily use supportive resources that fit their needs.
While we do have computers, they are slow and do not consistently operate properly. They require frequent maintenance, and even have keys and parts of the exterior missing. Sometimes students can spend upwards of 15 minutes just navigating to the page they need to work or even just finding a computer that works. In a 45 minute class, that is precious time wasted that could be easily fixed by having up-to-date technology. I will often avoid more creative projects, because of this issue.
Chromebooks are compact, lightweight machines that are easy to use and maintain. As I witnessed from other teachers at my school who have completed Donor's Choose campaigns for Chromebooks, they are the ideal machine that both meet the needs of a technologically dynamic classroom and can withstand the daily use of hundreds of students over years.
These Chromebooks will alleviate many of the barriers to incorporating more technology in my classroom, and enhance the learning in a way that will enable my students to acquire the skills needed to live and thrive in the 21st century.
