Green Architecture students will be able to learn how to accurately measure and draw floor plans using hands-on precision measuring tools such as the architectural scale. When Green Architecture students are making 3D models of their floor plans on Revit, they can discover the importance of drawing to scale by comparing measurements and calculations with standard rulers and those with architectural scales. This creates a teachable moment to discuss room size relationships and effects of inaccurate measurements with my eighth grade students.
Pre-engineering students will be able to learn how to accurately measure using hands-on precision measuring tools such as the dial calilper. When pre-engineering students are going through the design process, they can discover the importance of accuracy and precision by comparing measurements with standard rulers and those with specialty precision equipment used in industry. This creates a teachable moment to discuss repeatability and reproducibility with my sixth grade students.
