The new common core math is much different. The students need to concretely understand what they are doing and why, not merely the standard algorithm. To do this I really need hands on manipulatives so that the students can physically work with the numbers. They will be able to "regroup" 100s into 10s, 10s into 1s, etc. By actually "trading" in values the students really see what they are doing.
Having the math manipulatives I need will make teaching math concretely much more efficient. When learning division with double digit divisors, having the base ten blocks will help them "see" what they are doing.
