This project is designed to help students with disabilities such as ADHD. I have an overwhelming number of students who require assistance to stay focused and on task. My goal is to provide these students with opportunities to channel their energy in a constructive, quiet, and non disruptive way. By providing students with alternative seating in the classroom, it offers them a change from the norm and allows them to be more productive and engaged in the lessons being presented.
I hope to be able to provide enough alternatives for my students to channel their excess energy and learn to cope with their conditions that the need for medication becomes minimal.
Middle school students spend an exorbitant amount of time sitting quietly and listening. It is unnatural to sit quietly and refrain from movement. By providing alternative seating to the students, they can adjust their seat height and swivel, also allowing them to be able to work in groups and with a partner with ease. This seating allows the students to move around and still pay attention quietly. Students with ADHD require movement, I provide manipulatives for these students to play with quietly while working, however, I find they benefit from movement of their feet as well.
The educational world is changing. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to change along with it. I strive to provide my students with every possible opportunity to be as successful as they can be.
