Focus and attention are very important in every classroom setting. Unfortunately, there are only so many brain breaks we can do in order to improve students focus before it becomes play time.
My students are just like me. They need constant change (about every 10 minutes). Our attention spans are really short. Brain breaks help some but sitting at the front and completing whole group work helps even more. However, my students have to sit on a hard floor, which results in chaos when finding a place to sit and lots of complaints about bottoms hurting. It take about 5 minutes for the whole group lesson to even begin. An area rug should decrease this time drastically. Students should be quick to sit at their spots on the carpet, ready to learn.
Your donations will help my students in more ways than one. First, it will teach them how even strangers can demonstrate love and support. We seem to struggle with talking and acting out in unkind ways, and I hope this project will be an example of how we should all treat one another. Then second, it will help them during whole group time. There will be more structure and organization. This will increase our learning time, and the students will begin to grow in all their academic endeavors.
