Our students are extremely motivated to engage in all of the aspects of STEM, but they are especially excited with the project of the design and fabrication of an original battery powered cart for future "Electrathon" competitions. Currently the students are working to overhaul and repair a cart loaned to the school to provide the students an opportunity to learn and practice. Students also have already begun receiving lessons in basic fabrication techniques, including simple machining processes and gas tungsten arc welding on steel and aluminum to build and improve their skills.
Having the essential building materials available for our students to challenge themselves in designing and building their own electric car and other designs would be a tremendous lift to the program. The students do already have many good ideas for substantial upgrades to our current frame and body design, as well as the beginning designs for their own frame and chassis that could be applied, tested and modified using our current equipment. With the extended possibilities of additional practice the students could prove to excel, making it possible for continued participation and future expansion.
