My class of hopeful 2027 college graduates are fighting against the odds "so that they can have a better chance of having more opportunities than their parents had". (Actual hope of a parent of one of my students). The majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic background with very little academic exposure or support at home. However, what they say about kindergarteners is true! They are SUPER ABSORBENT SPONGES OF KNOWLEDGE. Every day they come in ready to learn and take on the high expectations of current kindergarten standards. Not only are they learning to read and write expository and narrative stories, they are currently learning addition/subtraction, and learning about our great nation of opportunities through symbolic representations of our country. How amazing are these 5 and 6 year-olds! Their inquisitive minds deserve only the best teaching possibilities. They see and they will remember, which will aid in their hands-on completion of truly understanding a concept.
