In November, we will begin our book club unit on Japanese American incarceration during WWII. This unit is such an important one for our 8th graders. They will learn to process historical fiction books from a literary perspective and also learn about that time in history.
The books I have requested are all about children like my students and the experiences they had in the Japanese Internment Camps.
Through these same-aged protagonists, my students will be able to immerse themselves in this world, and really imagine what it was like. By learning about this time in that way, my students will be better able to empathize with the characters and understand the challenges they faced.
I am so eager to share these books with my classes and see where our discussions will lead! Thank you very much for supporting our learning community.
