As some of our favorite book titles have been passed down over the years, they tend to experience a little "wear and tear." We preach not to judge a book by its cover, but to a 3rd grader the cover can make or break the deal. The front of a book has the potential to entice a new reader. The back blurb allows that reader to learn a little extra about this new, interesting book. And if a book has ALL of its pages, the reader can actually enjoy the ENTIRE story! If any part of the book is torn, missing, or has experienced just a little too much love, that book may never get picked up again. In addition to replenishing and replacing some old favorites, many of the books listed in this grant come directly from students' requests. With each new set of students comes a new set of interests, so each year I have a "Book Requests" bulletin board. On this board, students record favorite titles, series, authors, and topics that are missing from our library. Students are always thrilled to see their requests filled!
