Students will have the opportunity to problem solve, work collaboratively, and experiment with technology as they practice coding in a fun environment.
Computer technology and program coding is an essential part of our future world. Coding is the language of the future and it is best learned at a young age. Ozobots will be used to introduce younger students, in grades K-2 to the idea of computer programming in an easy to understand way. They will be able to use colored markers to create a coded path that the little robots will execute. Students will use problem solving skills and collaboration to help the tiny robots perform a task.
Dot and Dash will allow older students in grades 3-5 to build extensive programs. They programs allow these more complicated robots to perform elaborate tasks. Dot and Dash will challenge students to fully think through a problem as they create a program for Dot and Dash to sing, dance and navigate through the classroom. They can be used with building bricks and accessories designed just for the robots. Students will use them in conjunction with apps designed to help them build their programs with a common computer language called Blockly.
Extended day activities will be offered to students for before and after school technology education. These enriching activities will help boost confidence and collaboration with peers and educators. Students will work together to achieve a common goal.
At the end of the school year, these robotics will enrich the MakerSpace materials all students will use in the Media Center. It will be an ideal culmination to the hard work and new skills they have learned throughout the year.
