"History is boring! History is learning about dead guys! Why do I have to learn this? It doesn't matter to me now." - Many students walk into history class with a preconceived belief that learning about history is useless and boring. My classroom is focused on trying to change that by creating a learning experience that allows for students to take more control over their own learning and connect it to their lives today. My students actively engage in authentic scenarios that allow them to make decisions similar to their historical counterparts. Students are able to personalize their learning to meet their individual needs, prior experiences, and personal preferences. My job is to develop the citizens of the future, and to do that, I must provide opportunities for these young adults to develop critical thinking skills and a global understanding.
