I recently read an article in which Dr. Sheryl Reinishch, Dean of the College of Education with Concordia University- Portland, cited a study in which 775 students identified "comfort" as most necessary to promote a good learning environment. The study concluded that students who participated in the study correlated "comfort" to a good learning environment. It is my desire to make my classroom a comfortable learning environment for my scholars.
In an effort to move away from traditional seating options, my scholars will greatly benefit from a variety of flexible seating options to be cozy and comfortable as they learn throughout the day, at various learning stations. Scholars will be able to choose to sit on a large giant comfy pillow, a balance ball or a comfy floor seat. Scholars will be free to move throughout the classroom while working and learning. They will be comfortable, which will allow their bodies and brains to be ready to learn many new things.
