Fit for Life: Building Relationships and Healthy Habits Through Play will emphasize skills and techniques that will enable students to participate in team and/or individual sports and to develop skills and knowledge needed to remain active throughout their lifetime. The equipment will allow our students to move away from the traditional physical education activities, broadening these students’ awareness of different activities they can do to stay fit.
Due to our diverse student population we will also focus on learning cooperation skills, building healthy relationships, and working with another individual to achieve a goal. These games encourage strategy, communication, and overall team work to achieve the goal of winning. These skills not only relate to sports but also to life. Whether it is in school now, or the work place in the near future, working with others to achieve a goal is a vital life skill.
These outdoor games we are looking to purchase include Kan Jam, Spike Ball, Corn Hole, and Bocci Ball. We plan to use these games during our physical Education classes to improve team work and communication between pairs of students. We also plan to utilize these activities during our SMART lunch time. SMART lunch is an hour long lunch period where students have the option to come to the gym and participate in extra physical activity. Overall these items will bring new activities to our students and help them improve on their team work, communication, and cooperation skills.
