In science class, my students use notebooks throughout the entire year to form hypotheses, record and analyze data, and draw conclusions. The ways in which students do this varies because each individual student is so unique. Students are often asked to draw their ideas, create 3D graphic organizers in their notebook, and use their own prior-knowledge to develop a solution to a scientific problem. This method of using creativity and prior-knowledge to learn science requires a significant number of art supplies. Colored pencils are used to color-code notes and make drawings and diagrams more colorful. Scissors and Glue sticks are essential to allow students to attach graphs and tables into their notebook so that they are easily accessible to them later. Markers and felt-tip pens allow me, as their teacher, to also color code my notes as I teach.
