The more my students move the more that they learn. Sitting and working on projects or listening to instruction is difficult to do. When they have flexible seating, like the wobble seats, the floor pillows, they can move and learn at the same time.
Wiggle while you work is a motto that we use when we are in flexible seating. This is a reminder to all of us that we can move but we also have to focus on what the task is.
There are so many benefits to having flexible seating in a classroom. It helps students have a choice in where they are sitting and how they are sitting. It also helps the student to be comfortable while they are listening, reading, and being engaged in instruction. Some research even shows that it helps them have a commitment to learn. For students with sensory issues it also helps them pick what helps them best and the last reason it because it is fun!
Please help these students be able to focus by wiggling while they work!
