My classroom is in need of quality books to supplement our reading curriculum and enrich our classroom library. Our current reading curriculum is outdated and using it alone would not allow my students to master the skills needed to be ready for first grade. Our kindergarten team of teachers have found and purchased a supplemental reading program that utilizes current, engaging, well-known books. The books listed in this project are the titles included in this supplemental curriculum and additional books that will help my students enhance their reading. I began to use this reading program last school year and saw how successful it was in helping my students develop reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, grammar, and foundational skills. Moreover, my students enjoyed every book and were always cheering to “read it again!”
My students are learning literacy skills and enjoying it at the same time. My students love listening to read-alouds and are working hard to become independent readers. With the addition of these quality and enjoyable books, I can help my students reach their goals and help foster their love of reading.
