My 4th/5th Graders attend a public elementary school in Southern California. They are in a dual-immersion program where 1/2 the day they are learning to read, write and speak Mandarin. I teach 55 students in my dual immersion classroom, where English speakers are immersed in the Mandarin language while learning their California standards based curriculum.
Our little school is nearly 100 years old. To step-up the academic program we now offer two innovative and creative educational paths in Dual Language Immersion. We have found that both our Mandarin and Spanish program have enhanced student engagement. Walk into our school and you will hear instruction in English, Spanish and Mandarin. You will be welcomed by students and staff and the multitude of family members who volunteer at the school. My students are happy, eager, and enthusiastic learners.
