First grade is a pivotal year in school as students learn to read and grow as readers. It is so important to have books that engage the students and make them want to read more. Our classroom library is becoming quite sad as many of our books have been here for decades and are very worn. Many of my students do not have a lot of resources to find books outside of our school.
Having new books that they will be allowed to check out from our room will give them opportunities to explore worlds they wouldn't be able to otherwise. My students love to go from imagining a sharp-toothed dragon to reading about real-life sharp-toothed tigers! I want to be able to give them a larger selection of books so that they may read about whatever their little hearts desire!
I am so appreciative of books that have been left by former teachers and am always looking for book bargains. Donations from this project would allow me to get a leg up on the process of renewing the life of our classroom library!
