The Botley Coding Robot from Kaplan, introduces coding to students in a real, hands on manner through active engagement. The exciting aspect of this project is that students do not need an I Pad or tablet to code. The Botley Robot is a two wheeled computer and the kit comes with 77 options allowing students to navigate an obstacle course, follow black lines, or make a variety of maneuvers. Reinforces STEM skills which is an added plus as it integrates seamlessly with our Stemscopes Science Curriculum.
The benefits of coding are that it promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills. Botley shows young children that coding is easy, they learn how to correct or solve problems, fosters perseverance, and promotes organizational skills. By learning coding my students will have an opportunity to prepare for the future, apply math to a real life situation, tap student creativity, build confidence and planning skills. All students can be successful regardless of educational ability, and will allow all students to be successful.
