These multicultural and diverse materials will provide my students with the opportunity to develop a sense of character, empathy, and understanding for those that are different than them. As we know, our differences make us unique and special. However, we are more alike than we realize. The book sets will allow the children to see how other people around the world live, eat, and dress. They may see how we are different but the books will help stimulate a conversation of how we have similarities, too! The community people and block play people with differing abilities will help build empathy and new vocabulary as they play with the toys. The emotion stones and all about me folders will help my students develop their sense of self, recognize and regulate their feelings as they navigate the world around them. Children are more likely to build positive relationships when they begin to understand and identify their own emotions. Music has a way of bringing people together no matter their race, ethnicity, or gender. The multicultural cd's will be used to enhance our classroom community, strengthen the children's appreciation of the arts, and allow for them to express how they think and feel through singing and dancing. All of these materials will help my young learners appreciate all of our differences and similarities. They will be used to further develop respect, compassion, and most of all kindness.
