I teach Language Arts and Creative Writing 9th-12th grades. The students in my class at Kahuku HS are some of the warmest and most passionate young people you could ever meet!
Our classroom itself is on the third floor of a building, and with no air conditioning and big class sizes, it gets HOT! Unfortunately, the cost of updating the school to lower the temperatures is not in the state budget, so for now, we just have to make do. While the conditions do get a little miserable from time to time, the students make it worth it. I love coming to work to see them!
Our school is in a rural community, so our school is often overlooked when it comes funding. However, although they may not access to the type of facilities available to town or mainland schools, the students here don't let that hold them back. They are driven and bright, and I am grateful that I get the opportunity to teach them!
