I use and absolutely love the workshop model for both reading and writing. One of the reasons I love this model is because I am able to teach every student on their level and really know who they are academically. Another reason I love this set up is because my students are able to read what they want to read and not what I force them to read. Students are given time almost every day to read their books in class, and as a result I can not keep the popular books on my shelf and feel the need to update my collection. Kids are literally hounding each other to finish a book so that they can read it and are arguing over whose turn it is to read a book next.
