The materials that have been requested will be used to enhance the learning environment for the special needs students in my classroom. The students in my class learn through touching, playing, and investigating their environment.
Cars, trucks, duplo blocks, and the manipulative toys assist the children in developing fine motor skills as well as social skills as they play together. For most of them these are skills they need and work on everyday. Teaching our older children crocheting offers them an opportunity to relax and learn a new skill.
Most of the students in my class come from low socio-economic backgrounds and do not have the opportunity or the means to be exposed to a large variety of toys. These items will make a huge difference in not only their school life but will help them develop a sense that they are important to others and their needs matter.
