Increasing students'achievement in the area of reading is a school wide goal. Teachers and students at Lincoln St School are working towards building reading comprehension with reading chapter books through the approach known as C.I.A. This acronym stands for collect, interpret and apply-the essential components of the approach.
Through the C.I.A approach to reading, all students regardless of their level, are exposed to rich, engaging books. This approach simplifies the task of reading longer, more complex texts for all students, whether they are below, at or above grade level. These research based strategies include components such as the teacher read aloud, guided practice, reader's notebook, vocabulary instruction and writing about reading.
