We ALL love to feel comfortable and happy in spaces. At home, we curl up on our favorite couch or lean against our favorite pillow when we read a book or work on our laptops. Kindergarteners love to feel the same way in their classroom. By creating a classroom more like "home," I am hoping to increase student comfort and engagement. I want to offer my students flexible seating options. Student engagement and stamina increase with comfort levels. I would like to offer my students options beyond the regular table and chair. I would love for my students to be able to chose a comfy couch or beanbag for reading. Or to be able to sit on a floor pillow at a low table to work on a piece of writing. Students who need to move to concentrate would have stability balls to rock on and everyone who be able to chose the spot that works best for them. I have been amazed at seeing how much kindergarten students can grow and learn during a year and I can only imagine how much more they would be accomplish with even more options.
