I am proud to be a teacher within the newly formed Detroit Public School Community District. My students come from subsidized housing within the 48207 zip code, one of the lowest income areas of the city. All of my students receive free lunch, breakfast, and snack during our school day. We are a general education preschool classroom within a unique school made up of general education, hearing impaired, emotionally impaired and cognitively impaired students ranging from preschool through eighth grade. Our class consists of 18 students with a teacher and associate teacher in attendance each day. We employ the High Scope Curriculum and allow our children to explore and experience as much as we can provide to encourage them to draw their own conclusions and gain knowledge independently.
